Eyelids

Here at Life Studios, we’ve helped many patients who were struggling with the negative effects of droopy eyelids. Unfortunately, this issue can have many ramifications that include things like difficulty applying makeup, a perpetually tired appearance, and even vision problems due to the eyelid partially blocking the pupil of the eye. The good news is that, in many cases, our providers can help you address drooping eyelids with minimally invasive treatments that require no downtime.

Why Drooping Eyelids Form

The main cause of drooping eyelids is the change in your skin’s elasticity over time. As we age, the collagen support network becomes depleted due to a natural decrease in collagen and elastin production, as well as due to UV-induced collagen damage.

This process makes the skin inelastic and causes the eyelid(s) to be situated lower than usual. Though it’s often a question of the eyelid being just a few millimeters lower, the small change can have a deep impact on a person’s life.

Treating Drooping Eyelids

To help patients raise drooping eyelids, the expert providers at Life Studios can use Ultherapy treatments for targeted skin tightening.

During this procedure, Ultherapy isn’t applied to the eyelids, but rather around the eyebrows. This creates a tightening effect that pulls the skin upward and reduces the severity of drooping eyelids.

Since the eyelid needs to be lifted just a few millimeters, the effects of even mild tightening around the eyes can make you look more energetic and allow for a more comfortable makeup routine. Further, the increased collagen production around the eyes will improve skin texture and reduce the appearance of other wrinkles at the treatment site.

Results from Ultherapy are typically long-lasting, with patients reporting positive benefits for up to 12 months after just one treatment. Additionally, because the improvement is gradual, your friends and coworkers won’t be able to tell that you’ve had work done. They’ll simply notice the more alert and energetic appearance in your face. Learn More

Skin Care Routine for Drooping Eyelids

In addition to Ultherapy treatments for drooping eyelids, your Life Studios provider may suggest changes to your skin care routine to help maintain treatment results longer. This may include using more products with antioxidants and collagen-friendly ingredients.

Female vs. Male Drooping Eyelid Treatments

When helping patients address droopy eyelids, it’s very important to apply treatments in a manner that considers the subtle cues of facial features. For example, when using Ultherapy for skin tightening around the eyes, our providers take a different approach for women than for men.

The key aspect here is the arch of the brow. A man’s face typically benefits from eyebrows that are straight and don’t have a significant arch. However, female patients benefit much more from a brow that has an arch. This slight curve helps create a nuanced balance in the face that makes the eyes look more open and interplays well with other facial features.

To lift a drooping eyelid with Ultherapy, the arch in a woman’s brow is accentuated by applying the treatment on the sides of the brows. For a straighter brow more typical of men, the treatment is applied to the sides as well as between the brows.

(Of course, each patient can choose whatever approach they prefer. We’ve helped men who wanted more of an arch in the brow, and women who preferred not to accentuate the arch. It’s your look, so you’re in control.)
